Is there a IRS tax law on money in checking account ?

Hi, my folk recently moved to U.S and bought around 50k with them in wire transfers. I was wondering, is there any tax liability for money sitting in a checking or a saving account ? I know the interest collected in a saving account is taxable, but with the low interest rates it doesn't add up much. Nevertheless, will IRS tax this money ?
